the way I think about things, all these watches, built to tell the time, reliably and accurately in difficult environments, qualify as "tool watches". They are built to do a job and to do it well!!

These Rolexes are known as the "Sport Rolexes", and the GMT's, Explorers and Turn-O-Graphs are also included in this category. Yes, they only have three hands (or four, for the GMT); the rotating bezels make some of them that much more useful . . . I believe that they all would come within the category of "tool watches". The Explorer, for example, was basically a ruggedized bubbleback chronometer . . . built to be reliable in harsh environments.
