FS: Heuer Vintage Carrera 3647T, Valjoux 92

ChronoScope Collector Watches presents an absolutely stunning example of the Heuer Carrera 3647 T with a ‘Red Tachymeter’ dial. Also known as the Carrera 45, this reference owes its name to the 45 minute register at the 3 o’clock position.

The name was inspired by the ‘Carrera Pan Americana’, the most notorious and challenging race. This is a great example of a watch steeped in the history of automobile racing which was produced for a relatively short period in the 1960’s.
In 1969, it was replaced by the automatic Carrera. The ‘Red Tachy’ is therefore one of the rarest models of the manufacturer.
This Carrera 3647 T is a sporty-elegant chronograph and a great vintage watch for daily wear. Due to its rarity and its excellent condition, this watch is a collector’s item with great potential.

Please read the condition report carefully and refer to the high resolution pictures to help you assess the overall condition of the watch.

MODEL / REFERENCE: Heuer Carrera 45, reference 3647T.

DIAL+HANDS: This Carrera’s standout feature is its first execution silver dial with a minimalist design.

The printing on the dial is still very sharp, including a painted rehaut displaying the 1/5 second demarcations. The tachymeter scale displayed in red invites a burst of colour into the monochrome design, contrasting well with the silver color.
The sleek and uncluttered dial is pristine with no staining or tarnishing and follows a bi-compax layout. The sunken subdial with the small running seconds is positioned at 9 o’clock, and at 3 o’clock, we can observe the engine-turned 45-minute counter of the chronograph.
The original luminescent hands have aged slightly to an ivory patina. They exhibit no degradation when inspected under U.V light.
The baton markers have aged beautifully, they are associated with fully intact Tritium dots that glow properly when inspected under U.V light and have taken on a nice matching patina to the handset inlays, remaining fully intact.

CRISTAL: This timepiece comes equipped with its original plexiglass crystal, complete with its patented steel tension ring holding it in place. The crystal is in outstanding condition, displaying some minor hairline scratches that can be polished off.

MOVEMENT: This chronograph is powered by the reliable, manually wound calibre Valjoux 92. A high quality column-wheel movement, featuring a constant running seconds register at 10 o’clock and a 45 minutes subdial at 3 o’clock. The movement has been inspected and ticks strongly. The chronograph starts, stops and resets as intended.

CASE: This Carrera is housed inside an elegant 36mm stainless steel case and this particular example is in excellent condition with long angular inward lugs and amazing proportionality. The case remains unpolished, retaining a thick profile, even lugs and showing all the original sharp lines of the case.
The case is still beautifully intact, with scattered fine scratches throughout. It shows signs of use consistent with the age of the watch.
While it does look good in photos, on the wrist it is so much better!

CASEBACK: The 6 notches stainless-steel caseback screws in tightly. It is in excellent condition and retains its original brushed finish with an outer polished rim. Some minor surface scratches can be seen at the center. The inside is signed with the Heuer logo above the Ed Heuer & Co stamp.

CROWN + PUSHERS: The winding crown is signed with the Heuer logo and operates as intended. The fluted pump pushers must be later replacements.

BRACELET: The watch is fitted with a fantastic, brand new black leather strap with white stitching to complement the dial and an unsigned pin buckle.

ACCESSORIES: ChronoScope Saffiano Leather watch roll.

The price is 6,380 CHF (Swiss Franc) or best reasonable offer plus shipping at actual cost. Low ball offers will be politely ignored.

The 3647T Heuer Carrera is subtle, yet undeniably beautiful. It transcends time to become one of the most iconic timepieces ever created, with early models becoming some of the most desired vintage watches in the market.

This historical chronograph was born through Jack Heuer’s thirst for simplicity. The result was a clean chronograph that later was adopted by Porsche and given to their most successful and iconic automobile to date.
