FSOT: Heuer Autavia 11630 KAF - Kenyan Air Force - Rare Arabic dia *PIC*

You are looking at a super rare and desirable Autavia from the 1970s made for the Kenyan Air Force. These models have been well documented on OTD and especially the Shauntavia models, featuring an Arabic dial.

Some of the most unusual and charismatic Autavia’s of the 1970’s known on the market are those issued to the Kenyan Air Force, such as the present Autavia reference 11630. This watch was produced by Heuer in a very small batch exclusively for the Kenyan Air Force as we can distinguish on the back of the case by the engraving “KAF-414”.

Additional particularity, this piece is in the rarest design of this reference with the arabic dial, made especially for this model. Also met in some manual Autavia, ref. 73663, arabic dials are nicknamed “Shauntavia”, after the man who studied them at first. Unlike manual autavias arabic dials, the dial made for the KAF 11630 is glossy and bears the mention “Automatic”.

Here is an extract of the OTD article :

"
The numeral dials also appear in Calibre 12 Autavias. This is not a case of dial switches or put together watches: there is a specific dial for the automatic Calibre 12 Autavias with the text “Automatic” in the usual place for Heuer dials. The dial is a later Autavia style, with a glossy finish and slightly silvered subdials. This glossy dial style is typical of late 11630 and 11063 Autavias in the standard, non-numeral, dial configuration as well.
"

The condition of the watch is great. Photos don't really show the depth of the glossy dial. The case is strictly unpolished, the bezel is in nice condition and the insert is looking good, what you would expect from a military watch that has been in duty. Really a great military toolwatch, rare and well preserved.
