ChronoScope Collector watches presents a mint and rare Universal Genève Unisonic Sub. The Unisonic comes with its original box and appears to be unworn. The only sign of aging is on the bakelite bezel which shows a few spots of paint loss.
The prestigious manufacture, UG was no stranger to innovation as it implemented in this line Bulova’s turning fork technology a decade before the Quartz Revolution. This dive watch thus combines an appealing design and the most technologically advanced caliber of the sixties era.
A groundbreaking dive watch, this Unisonic sub never ceases to impress! The use of a sapphire crystal was every unusual at the end of the 1960’s and highlights the exceptional quality of Universal Geneve. No wonder the Unisonic was the most expensive electronic watch available at that time.
Please read the condition report carefully to help you assess the overall condition of the watch.
MODEL / REFERENCE: Universal Genève Sub Ref. 852103/01. Serial number: N/A
DIAL+HANDS: The matte black dial is in excellent condition, displaying crisp printing and retains full tritium strips on the indexes. It has developed a very subtle freckling patina, homogeneous throughout.
Legibility is an important feature for any dive watch, this timepiece comes equipped with a neon orange minute hand to easily count the elapsed time underwater. The hands are all original and are in excellent condition retaining their original lume matching the indexes’.
The framed date aperture is legible, contrasting the dial’s color and is positioned at 3 o’clock.
Bezel: The black bi-directional Bakelite bezel, shows some signs of age also known as ‘ghosting’ and turns smoothly achieving 120 clicks per full rotation.
CRYSTAL: The watch features an original sapphire crystal in excellent condition, preserving its white decal at the periphery.
MOVEMENT: This watch houses a 15 jewel UG electro-mechanical movement, known as cal. 1-52. This tuning fork movement was actually based on Bulova’s own 2181F with an additional treatment. Many parts were finished by UG to higher standards, an engraved train bridge and different plate colors.
The result is a very precise movement offering a hacking function and a handy 12-6 quickset date feature.
The caliber has been serviced and fitted with a new battery. It keeps excellent time and all functions work as intended.
CASE: The stainless steel case is in outstanding condition, never polished, and still retains its factory brushed finish and sharp edges.
Measuring 42mm crown excluded and 49mm lug to lug, the case has a charming wrist presence for a vintage timepiece, befitting the modern taste as well.
CASEBACK: The screw down caseback is very clean and unblemished and matches the case’s finish.
Crown: Signed Universal Genève screw down waterproof crown.
BRACELET: The watch comes with its integrated Jubilee Gay frères bracelet in stainless steel showing minimal stretch and light scratches throughout and still retains its satin finish.
The outside of the clasp is engraved with the signature UG turning fork logo. The inside is stamped with the GF and UG logos as well as the date of manufacture 3-69.
ACCESSORIES: The watch is complete with its original presentation box in very good condition.
A prime example of the model and museum grade piece. This watch is a piece of horological history, a relic from that transitional period between the introduction of the tuning fork and the Quartz Revolution.
WARRANTY: We guarantee the authenticity of the watch. We also provide 12 months guarantee for the correct function of this timepiece. All guarantees are subject to the General Terms and conditions of ChronoScope Collector watches, Switzerland.
