FS: Omega Vintage Seamaster Chronometer COLLECTORS GRADE

ChronoScope Collector watches presents a rare Vintage Omega Seamaster Chronometer from approx. 1968. This rare chronometer is in true collectors grade and looks absolutely mint. Even when inspected under a loupe, i could not find a single flaw.

ChronoScope Collector Watches presents this mint and utterly stunning Omega Seamaster Chronomètre from 1968, with double case reference numbers 168.022/166.028. This oversized double reference is seldom seen for its COSC certified movement, often associated with the Constellation line.

In 1948, the Seamaster lineup was created by the Swiss watchmaking giant Omega to celebrate the brand’s centennial. The essence of the Seamaster was a masterful combination of Omega’s knack for universal wearability, accuracy, and sturdy construction.

The early dressy Seamasters, beyond looking the part, had to be solidly practical and dependable enough to withstand the rigors of everyday life.

In 1956 for example, Omega pulled a genius marketing stunt by attaching one of their Seamasters to the outside of a Douglas DC6 aircraft, on the Polar Route over the North Atlantic.

Please read the condition report carefully to help you assess the overall condition of the watch.

MODEL / REFERENCE: Omega Seamaster Chronomètre. The present example features two case reference numbers 168.022 and 166.028. The 27 Million serial number dates its production date back to circa 1968.

DIAL+HANDS: This Seamaster features a rare, brushed silver dial with a subtle granular design which really pops together with the applied hour indices, Omega logo and name that catch the light quite nicely, creating a mesmerizing sparkly effect.

The dial is virtually spotless and incredibly easy to read thanks to its original and sharp black imprint throughout. The silver framed date window at 3 o’clock is unobtrusive and features a clean disc.

The applied hour markers are a well-executed combination of silver and onyx black accents. Each silver index, except for the 9 o’clock one, is set with an intact Tritium plot that started to take a light creamy patina.

The hour and minute hands are correct to this reference and present sublime onyx accents and luminous tips that match the lume plots’ color.

CRYSTAL: The watch comes with an armed Plexiglass crystal that does not feature the omega engraving however it is a faithful substitution of the original crystal. It is in excellent condition, displaying no scratches or marks.

MOVEMENT: Omega filled this case with a 24-Jewel, 564 automatic in-house caliber. The copper plated movement features a date complication at 3 o’clock that can be quickly adjusted by repeatedly pulling the crown, a handy function suitable for a daily wearer.

This COSC certified, chronometer grade movement has been adjusted to five positions as well as temperature to increase its precision. As expected, it has seen professional inspection and service, thus keeping excellent time, functions flawlessly, and will continue to tick strong for years to come!

CASE:  Omega Seamaster watches usually came with a 34-35 mm case. However, the present example features an oversized case measuring 36.5mm in diameter and 41.5mm from lug to lug. The design language suggests a transition towards the tonneau shaped descendants that later appeared in the 1970s. The subtle curve of the elongated lugs places the watch in a sweet spot between sporty and dressy attire.

Though this watch is almost half a century old, the case shows no evidence of major wear marks. In most places, the original factory brushing is barely disturbed and the bevels are still evident.

CASEBACK: The stainless steel screw down caseback has six opening notches and remains in very good aesthetic condition, with no visible nicks or scratches.

At the center, we can find a very prominent Seamaster medallion, depicting Neptune, the Roman god of the sea.

Just like the case, the slightly polished finish remains undisturbed for almost half a century.

The inner side is marked with the correct stamps for the period, from correct Omega stamps, the Centrales Boîtes (CB) case maker hallmark and case reference numbers.

CROWN:  This timepiece comes with its period correct fluted crown, embossed with a well-defined Omega logo at the center and displays no apparent damage. The crown operates flawlessly as it should, from setting time to quick date setting by repeatedly pulling the crown to its last stop.

BRACELET:  This Seamaster wears superbly thanks to a fantastic brown leather strap measuring 19mm in width and comes complete with a signed steel pin buckle.

ACCESSORIES: ChronoScope Saffiano Leather watch roll.
