For sale from my personal collection is this amazing 100% original sixties/seventies Dilecta Depth Master Diver. Does this watch look familiar? You are right, it looks a lot like a Panerai only smaller hence the nickname “Baby Panerai”!
Dilecta was a Swiss watch brand founded in Biel in 1907, the case was made in using Swedish steel. This characteristic watch case was used by a LOT of brands, Droz, LeCoultre, Nivada, Austin, Jungfrau, Sandoz and even Orient of Japan added their own unique dials to this popular case. By the way, there were slight variations on the case thickness, but I’ll consider them all relatives. Yes, that’s right, this case was shared across continents, fascinating!
The watch is in brilliant condition for a watch fifty years old. It has got an acrylic domed crystal, a lovely blue dial with bright sunburst effect, applied block indices and a lovely lollipop seconds hand. The tritium lume on dial and hands has turned a wonderful vanilla. The watch has a cool “roulette” date wheel, uneven days in red, even days in black!
The bezel rotates unidirectional and features a lovely blue and white acrylic inlay which is brilliant condition.
The stainless steel case is unpolished, the brushing on top fully intact and the beveled edges are still sharp, the watch still even has its original spring loaded crown!
I am not the best photographer , so the watch looks even better in the flesh, every nick and scratch on the photos here is highlighted.
Diameter without the crown is 40mm, 45.23mm length, 12.7mm thickness, it wears very comfortably. The lug size is 20mm, watch comes on Tropic style strap.
Inside ticks a bullet proof ETA 2781 movement, the watch keeps good time, great amplitude and both winding and quick-set date work like they should.
Since my collection has gotten too large again it is time to make some choices, so this rare bird may leave.
