Kurt -
I have a first generation Navitimer with a Venus 178 movement. The crystal and hands have been replaced (which does not affect the value), but everything else is original and authentic. The watch is running well, and shows very little aging. The dial looks almost brand new, and the tritium is still glowing strong. The case, is virtually NOS, and the watch is pristine overall. The watch even comes with an original Breitling bracelet, although I am not entirely sure of its vintage, as Breitling didn't produce Breitling bracelets on the original Navitimer (Lizard skin bands originally). The bracelet I would guess is from the 60s, and it 22mm - a perfect fit. I may be interested in selling it, if the offer was right... Email me for a pic, and include a ballpark offer (obviously dependent on condition).
Cheers!
