This is a rare vintage Heuer chrono ref number 1614. I believe these were a late 70’s watch and many were found with the “Champion” logo on them (like the spark plug brand) These are French made Heuer’s as well. I had the movement looked over by my watchmaker and he said it looked in good shape. It is a manual wind 7765. All functions correctly, and it keeps pretty good time as well. It stays within about 45 secs compared to my quartz watches…Although the reserve is not terribly long, I try and wind it everyday.
I do not know the service history. What is nice about this example is the original orange hands, most 1614’s you see have different hands, or the white subdial hands.
The case is overall good shape, I’d say 80-85% (I wear the watch) but for it’s age it looks very nice. If I were to keep it, I’d change the crystal. It has some very minor chips on the edge at about the 2:30 mark and 1:00. They do not detract from the appearance, but they are there. The other thing about the crystal is head on it looks nice, but you can see in the photos it has almost a ripple effect in the glass. It appears to be mineral crystal. Shouldn’t cost more than about 50 bucks to get another crystal put on.
I wear it on the orange piping, leather rally band which I get MANY compliments on. I also have a cheap generic bracelet you can have with it if you want it.
I am pricing this watch at 1125 shipped and paypal’d. I am pretty firm on that price, the last one on ebay sold for over 1300 and did not have original hands. The crystal was better on that and it had a TAG bracelet (which I don’t think add or detracts from the value, but it was by no means period correct)
These rarely come up for sale and I am hesitant about selling it, being that it would be hard to find another, but financial circumstances dictate it. Own a piece of history!!!
