As has happened to me more than once, I now have two great examples of the same watch. LOL. Flipped a coin and so this one will make someone’s day! :)
Up for sale is this classic late 1960s Omega Speedmaster Professional Mark II with super-cool high contrast Exotic "Racing” dial. This rare dial is Mint and ultra bright and has its original Tritum lume, as do the hands. It's very difficult to find an original Mk II Racing dial in this sort of essentially unfaded condition. Overall, the watch itself has a very sharp case with original chamfers and is easily in Excellent vintage condition. It also comes on the hard-to-find 1159 bracelet, which Omega no longer manufactures and costs a small fortune in its own right on the secondary market.
The asking price for this great Vintage Omega Speedy Mark II with fantastic original dial is $1,850 USD, including fully insured worldwide shipping. Paypal is OK on this watch with split fees (+2% to the buyer) unless by eCheck or "Gift." Bank Wire is always appreciated. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.
CASE: Large 41 x 45mm stainless steel tonneau case has been lightly buffed on the top at some point but still shows it’s original radial finish beneath. The chamfers are still pretty crisp and the satin sides have never been polished. This big Speedy shows a few scratches and a couple of minor dings commensurate with 40+ years of use. Overall, Excellent lightly polished vintage condition.
CASEBACK: The outer caseback has several minor scratches but no gouges from poor opening technique or the like. The Hippocampus, SPEEDMASTER & Omega symbol are quite crisp. Externally, Very Good to Excellent cosmetic condition. The inner caseback has negligible corrosion and has all the correct original Omega nomenclature of the period, including the proper reference number.
DIAL & HANDS: Absolutely mint original Omega Tritium dial in high impact gray, orange & burgundy “Racing” layout. Tritium plots have an attractive off-white tone but are still quite bright. All-correct hour and minute hands are Excellent with some signs of age and are likewise Tritium. Fluorescent orange chronograph hands show a pleasingly light mellowing to their intensity and the constant seconds has acquired a lovely ivory patina. Simply a massively pleasing and classic original Omega Mk II Racing layout!
CROWNS & PUSHERS: Signed Omega winding crown and original pushers are Excellent cosmetically. The large crown winds and pulls out to the time-setting position as it should. The top pusher stops and starts the chronograph as it should and the bottom pusher resets all chrono registers precisely to zero as designed.
CRYSTAL: Unique flat mineral crystal with inner printed Tachymeter scale is Near Mint with only one or two very hard to see minor scratches near the top right edge. No chips or deep scratches whatsoever.
MOVEMENT: Legendary Omega cal. 861 chronograph movement with a 31 million serial number (ca. 1969) looking very bright and pristine. I do not know the service history of this watch and so cannot guarantee that it will not need service in future. However, all chronograph and time-keeping functions operate properly, with crisp start/stop and reset of the chrono hands, and this manual wind Speedy is keeping good time with a strong power reserve. Guaranteed to be operating properly at the time of shipment.
BRACELET: Early issue and very scarce ref. 1159 bracelet with 154 ends and original raised-logo Omega buckle. The bracelet has no significant stretch, although there are signs of some minor repairs and/or link repositioning to the last few small tapered links on each end. There are the usual scratches to the buckle and bracelet, so overall I rate this hard-to-find 1159 as Very Good. It fits my 7.25-7.5” wrist very comfortably at the second to last adjustment so I would guess that it might accommodate up to a 7.75” wrist.
I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form due to its age and the dodgy water resistance of most vintage chronos in general.
This great Vintage Omega Speedy Mk II is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer. This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.
Thanks for looking,
T.
