FS: ROLEX VINTAGE SUBMARINER 1680 BOX PAPERS 1978

The reference 1680 marked Rolex's epiphany that the Submariner was catching on with non-divers. The 1680 introduced not only the date display for the first time on a Submariner, but also a solid 18k gold case (and bracelet).
This is a particularly nice vintage reference 1680 stainless steel Rolex Submariner. The original black dial is just a tiny bit faded and the hour markers have a rich and uniform patina. The original hands match the dial in color as well. The watch is in mint condition and the dial is mint+.
Serial number 55022XX dates manufacture to 1978, while the original punched Garantie certificate shows an original retail sales date of July 1981.
Original case measures 40mm diameter by 14.4mm thick. The original high sitting "top hat" acrylic crystal is perfectly clean and the case itself has suffered little to no metal erosion over the years, with fat and even lugs. The original diver's timing bezel rotates smoothly and the original screw-down Triplock crown operates perfectly.
Original movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570 with 26 jewels and adjusted to five positions. This movement is immaculately clean and was serviced by Rolex in 2006. Movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
Bracelet is the Rolex Oyster 93150 heavy link with flip lock clasp and 12 links and will fit up to an 8 inch wrist. Bracelet is in mint condition.
This especially nice looking vintage 1680 Submariner is complete with original box and papers.
