Links to online auctions and other sites: Links to online auctions, dealer sites or other listings of items are permitted, but you should be careful to ensure that such listings will comply with our other ChronoTrader Policies. In 1925, Tissot began an important association with the watchmaking firm of Omega S.A. Shortly thereafter (in 1930 to be exact), the SSIH Holding Company (Societe Suisse pour l'Industrie Horlogere) was founded with Omega and Tissot as its first members.
A prime example of this phenomenon is the Tissot Seastar featured here. A chronograph with robust water-resistance, the Seastar allowed active men to now enjoy their diving activities to an even greater degree.
Besides being a watch that looks great - tastefully using color in the dial and hands to give a distinctive look, even more so now that the luminous has toned; and showcasing an interesting design with the bezel descending below the case sides in places. It features an exceptional movement which makes the watch a bargain.
Powering this gem is the Lemania Caliber 1277 movement, a rare mechanism produced for only one year - 1969. Its quality exceeds that of many movements in watches priced several multiples higher. In many ways the 1277 (and its sister three-register version) bridged the technological gap between two of Omega's best known Lemania chronograph movements, calibers 321 and 861.
This watch , having been made in 1969, is not without some flaws, which can be seen in the extreme close-up photos which exagerate all of them. By and large though, the watch is in remarkable condition.
