Up for sale is this rare and super cool vintage 1960s Gallet 3-register chronograph in large stainless steel screw back case. Known informally as the "Jim Clark" model due to the great Formula One driver's purported association with this watch, this chrono features an original glossy all-black dial with silver print and a classic Valjoux 72 under the hood. IMO, this indicates later 60s production, as by that time Gallet had mostly stopped using the previous Excelsior Park movements in favor of the superior Valjoux machines. This great Gallet has just been fully overhauled by my NYC Master Watchmaker for years more of faithful service. It comes with a 6-month movement guarantee for normal non-abusive use. This is a great opportunity to own a high quality and unique sporty chronograph from the 1960s with a racing pedigree in overall Excellent original vintage condition.
The price for this cool vintage Gallet "Jim Clark" chronograph is $1850 USD including fully insured FedEx shipping worldwide. Bank Wire/Money Order is always appreciated but Paypal is OK with split fees (+2% to the buyer). Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS.

CASE & BACK: Large all-stainless steel screwed case with faceted lugs in Excellent unpolished vintage condition with some wear and nicks from its 45 or so years and measuring an impressive 37mm wide (not including crown) x 44mm long. Stainless steel screw back with some light tool marks on the outside has been lightly polished to remove a shallow hand engraved personalization but still sports its original radial finish. It is easily in Excellent+ external cosmetic condition and is corrosion free with correct Gallet hallmarks on the inside.
DIAL & HANDS: Original and beautiful high gloss black dial in Excellent condition. It features silver printed concentric Tachymeter, Telemeter & minute tracks, engine turned subdials and original luminous Arabic numerals. The dial has a few marks to the surface and a slight bit of damage where the "7" touches the hour recording sub register, hence my Excellent rating. The Breitling-like hour & minute hands are Excellent to Near Mint with very few signs of age and their original luminous fill intact and the large chrono sweep seconds and small chrono stick hands are in like condition.
MOVEMENT: This great Gallet features a finely finished and legendary Valjoux 72 17-jewel manual wind chronograph caliber with shock protection and correct "JXR" import code (Gallet & Racine). As stated above, the movement has just been fully overhauled and so is running strongly and keeping good time. All chrono functions are working as designed with the one proviso being that the minute counter reset can be a little "soft" and requires a firm not casual push of the lower pusher to bring the hand back to true zero. I feel that this is due to wear to the original pusher and not actually a movement issue, as I have seen this before on many different older chronos I have owned. But with that firm push, all counters reset to "zero" crisply. That caveat being stated, this complex chronograph movement is guaranteed for 6 months of normal non-abusive use. As a technical note, this movement is held in the case with a non-secured spacer ring, which is thankfully present and doing its job. :)
CROWN & PUSHERS: The correct and unsigned oversized steel crown winds properly and pulls out to the time-setting position as it should and the original pushers start & stop and reset the chronograph as designed and explained above.
CRYSTAL: Large domed acrylic crystal has been polished and is now in Near Mint condition with no cracks or crazing and is sitting tightly in the case.
BAND: This cool Gallet chrono comes on a brand new black & white "skunk" Maratac NATO strap (I also have all-black or tan-black if you prefer). This large chronograph takes 20mm straps.
I make absolutely NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch due to the dodgy water resistance of vintage chronos in general.
This rare vintage Gallet 3-register Val. 72 chronograph is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.
Thanks for looking,
