Up for sale is this circa late 1960s Zodiac Aerospace GMT automatic dual time zone watch with date in all original Excellent vintage condition. A favorite with servicemen in Vietnam, this cult classic features a lovely gloss black dial with silver print, rotating 24-hour bezel with original bicolor acrylic insert and it also sports its original Zodiac-signed stretch rivet steel bracelet. This great Aerospace was sold to me as recently serviced and is keeping good time and running strong—I’m guaranteeing the movement for 6-months of normal, non-abusive use. Zodiacs are absolutely one of the best values in the vintage watch world with very good build quality and excellent, tough movements and the Aerospace GMT is a true icon.
The asking price for this great original Zodiac Aerospace is $750 USD including fully insured worldwide shipping and Paypal. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.
CASE & BACK: All stainless steel case measures 36mm wide to the edge of the bezel (not including crown) x 43mm and shows no polish that I can detect, with the lugs thick and chamfers sharp. The case shows its years but is really very nice with no signs of abuse and no deep dings or scratches—Excellent vintage and probably unpolished condition. Complete 2 mil serial number is sharp & legible between the "6" lugs. The outer press in steel caseback has some light scratches and also shows little if any polish with all correct brand & model nomenclature sharp--Excellent cosmetic condition overall. The inner back has all correct Zodiac numbers and text and is corrosion free.
DIAL & HANDS: Beautiful original factory printed gloss black dial with silver text, applied bar markers with original Tritium luminous and framed date window. There are a few small marks to the surface visible under high-powered loupe but otherwise the dial is really nice with few signs of aging--Excellent+ condition. Stick-type hands are Excellent with negligible corrosion and just some darkening and light cracking to their original Tritium luminous fill, particularly the lume square on the sweep seconds. The lume-tipped red 24-hour hand is Near Mint and correctly synchronized with the 12-hour hands.
BEZEL: Original knurled steel rotating bezel with gray/black/green triangle acrylic 24-hour insert. The insert has a few marks but is not cracked and easily in Excellent condition and the bezel itself is likewise Excellent with sharp “teeth” for easy manipulation. It rotates nice and firmly in both directions and stays put where you’ve set the 24-hour time.
CROWN: Correct Zodiac-signed push in-type crown sits tight against the case, winds smoothly and pulls out to the hack time-setting positions as it should.
CRYSTAL: Seemingly original low dome acrylic crystal in Excellent condition with some evidence of polished out scratches but otherwise quite clean and clear.
MOVEMENT: Automatic Zodiac caliber 75 with hack setting, date and 24-hour complication. This is another iteration of the excellent and durable auto movement jointly developed by Favre-Leuba, Girard-Perregaux, Doxa, Eberhard and Zodiac in the 1960s based on a Schild ebauche with added auto rotor assembly. The date is semi-quickset, meaning it can be set rapidly by repeatedly moving the hands back and forth between approximately 20:00 and 24:00 hours to rapidly advance the date. While my watchmaker has not worked on this movement, it was sold to me as recently serviced by a trustworthy source. Therefore, I am guaranteeing it for 6-months of normal, non-abusive use, which is added peace of mind for the new owner.
BRACELET: This classic Aerospace GMT comes on its original and rare stainless steel stretch rivet Oyster-style band in Excellent+ condition with well-sprung expanding action and only light stretch and very minor scratches. At its current longest micro adjustment it should fit a 7 3/4" wrist. These original Zodiac bracelets are getting thin on the ground so this is real added value to an already terrific watch. The lug width is the typically weird Zodiac “standard” of slightly less than 18mm.
I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch.
This great 100% genuine vintage Zodiac Aerospace is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.
Thanks for looking,
T.
