Thanks for the follow up. I have some thoughts but no explanation for the missing numbers. I would agree it is genuine so the question has to be why the back is different (it could be intentional rather than altered). The fakes by the way seem to always have numbers on the back.
Is there a warranty card that gives a serial number? If so, I would think TAG could verify it.
If the difference is from alteration then I would suspect someone did not want this watch to be traceable. Possibly gray market or theft.
Your idea of a pre production item is not impossible either.
In your photo of the back there may be a very faint trace of a serial number. If you could read this somehow then a solution could be had.
I have made a composite picture of real and fake Jack H 1964 Carreras for your comparison. The numbers are underlined in red.
If you get a solution please post it on the OTD forum (http://chronocentric.com/forums/heuer/) so we can document it.
