Up for sale is this genuine vintage Eterna-Matic KonTiki 20 with beautiful original blue dial and signed brick link bracelet. This great vintage diver is 100% original and dates from the late 1960s, I believe. This KonTiki 20 is a classic, rugged water resistant watch with heavy screw-back steel case, screw down crown and quality shock resistant ETA movement modified by Eterna with their patented 5 ball bearing rotor mount. These watches are terrific value for money and this one is extra special with its rare blue dial and long original steel bracelet. This KonTiki 20 is in overall Excellent vintage condition.
The asking price for this great Eterna-Matic is now further REDUCED to $650 USD OBRO including fully insured FedEx shipping worldwide. Paypal is fine on this transaction, as is Bank Wire. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.
CASE & BACK: Good sized 37mm (not including crown) x 44mm x 11mm contoured-lug case in Excellent original vintage condition with well-defined bevels and only minor scuffs and some small nicks. Screw in water-resistant caseback has some superficial scratches/tool marks and smoothing of the gold KonTiki raft logo so cosmetically Very Good condition. Inner case & back are corrosion free and all correct Eterna nomenclature of the period is present.
DIAL & HANDS: Excellent condition original metallic blue sunburst dial with sharp silver text, applied faceted black and silver markers, Eterna-Matic "five-ball" logo and framed date window. The dial shows a few very small marks to its finish but it is nonetheless stunning and quite uncommon in this color. All original Tritium dots are present. Original luminous and black enamel-filled hands are likewise Exellent with the only real flaw being a small portion of the black fill missing on the hour hand, an easy fix for a good watchmaker. Overall, a very cool and hard to find blue KonTiki dial that really pops on the wrist.
CROWN: Original large and correct unsigned crown screws down and pulls out to the winding and non-hack time setting positions as it should. It does have a slight wiggle to it but having owned several vintage KonTikis now I actually believe this to be a result of Eterna's spring-loaded crown design rather than a defect.
CRYSTAL: Original domed acrylic crystal with 5-ball logo in the center shows some crazing and light scratches but is clear and chip free--Very Good condition.
MOVEMENT: Eterna-Matic caliber 1489K, which I think is a modified ETA cal. 2433 with the unique rotor system and Kif-Ultraflex shock protection added. It is a non-hacking and semi-quickset movement, meaning one can rapidly advance the date by moving the hands from approximately 9PM to 12PM repeatedly. While I do not know the service history of this watch, the movement is keeping good time with strong power reserve and correct date change. I guarantee this to be the case upon shipment.
BAND: This great KonTiki 20 comes on its original signed brick link bracelet, a rare find in its own right. The bracelet shows cosmetic wear, particularly to the clasp and end pieces, but it is quite tight and not overly stretched, Very Good and very wearable original condition. At full extension it should fit about a 7 3/4" wrist.
I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form.
This classic KonTiki 20 is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.
Thanks for looking,
T.
