Selling part of a friend's collection with my 100% backing. I am in possession of the watch and will handle the shipping; payment will go directly to him.
Up for sale is this classic early 1970s Omega Speedmaster Professional Mark II with super-cool high contrast Exotic "Racing" dial. This rare dial is Near Mint and it has faded beautifully through the years, as have the hands, and all retain their original Tritum lume. Note that the watch has acquired a standard Speedmaster chrono sweep seconds hand at some point in its long life but the patina matches the dial and it looks pretty cool. Overall, the watch has a very clean case and is easily in Excellent+ vintage condition. It also comes on a genuine and rugged full size genuine Omega mesh bracelet with extension link.
The asking price for this great Vintage Omega Speedy Mark II with wonderful original dial is $1,850 USD OBRO, including fully insured FedEx shipping worldwide. If for some reason you don't want the mesh bracelet you will receive an appropriate discount. Bank Wire preferred but Paypal is OK on this transaction with +2% to the buyer. Payment must be made directly to my consignor in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.
CASE & CASEBACK: Large and heavy 41 x 45mm stainless steel tonneau case is very clean and appears to have had the top re-brushed at some point but the chamfers are still pretty crisp and the satin sides have never been polished. This big Speedy shows very few scratches or nicks despite 40+ years of use. Overall, Excellent+ lightly polished vintage condition. The outer caseback has some minor scratches but no gouges from poor opening technique or the like. The Hippocampus, SPEEDMASTER & Omega symbol are quite crisp--externally Excellent cosmetic condition. The inner caseback has no corrosion and shows all the correct original Omega nomenclature of the period, including the proper reference number.
DIAL & HANDS: Near Mint original Tritium dial in high impact gray, orange & burgundy "Racing" layout with just some light very rub marks to the engine turned subdials visible under a loupe. Tritium bars have an attractive off-white tone and the dial has faded to pale gray with the orange and red accents also attractively faded, presumably from cumulative sun exposure. The correct hour and minute hands are also Near Mint with some signs of age and are likewise Tritium-filled. At some point this watch has been fitted with a standard Speedmaster sweep seconds hand rather than the "Racing" version but it must have been some time ago, as the patina of the luminous triangle matches that of the dial. The orange chronograph counter hands are consistent with the dial in their fading and the constant seconds has acquired a lovely ivory patina. No doubt about it, this classic Omega Mk II Exotic dial makes a pure vintage statement on the wrist.
CROWNS & PUSHERS: Signed Omega winding crown and original pushers are Near Mint cosmetically. The large crown winds and pulls out to the time-setting position as it should. The top pusher stops and starts the chronograph and the bottom pusher resets all chrono registers precisely to zero as designed.
CRYSTAL: Unique flat mineral crystal with inner printed Tachymeter scale is Near Mint with only one or two very hard to see minor nicks. No chips or deep scratches whatsoever.
MOVEMENT: Legendary Omega cal. 861 chronograph movement with a 33 million serial number (ca. 1971) looking very bright and pristine. I do not know the service history of this watch and so cannot guarantee that it will not need service in future. However, all chronograph and time-keeping functions operate properly, with crisp start/stop and reset of the chrono hands, and this manual wind Speedy is keeping good time with a strong power reserve. Guaranteed to be operating properly at the time of shipment.
BRACELET: Modern ref. 1380/237 heavy mesh bracelet with spring-loaded clasp and genuine Omega extension link in Excellent+ condition. It fits my 7.25-7.5" wrist very comfortably at the second to last adjustment so I would guess that it might accommodate up to a 7.75" wrist. This watch has a 20mm lug width.
I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form due to its age and the dodgy water resistance of most vintage chronos in general.
This great Vintage Omega Speedy Mk II is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer. This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.
Thanks for looking,
