Selling part of a friend's collection with my 100% backing. I am in possession of the watch and will handle the shipping; payment will go directly to him.
Up for sale is this genuine vintage Nivada Grenchen "Chronoking" diver's chronograph watch in massive water resistant steel case. This great vintage diver is 100% original and dates from the late 1960s/early 1970s. This is a gorgeous example with Near Mint black & orange dial with blue accents, unpolished case and original black acrylic bezel insert. This great Chronoking is powered by the highly desirable Valjoux 726 column wheel movement and it was last fully serviced about a year ago. Overall, the watch is in Excellent+ condition and is keeping great time with all chronograph and timekeeping functions operating as they should. To put the cherry on top of the sundae, this great big vintage diver comes on a period correct original black rubber Isofrane strap.
The asking price for this exceptional example of Nivada Grenchen Chronoking is $2950 USD OBRO including fully insured FedEx shipping worldwide. Bank Wire preferred but Paypal is OK on this transaction with +2% to the buyer. Payment must be made directly to my consignor in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.
CASE & BACK: Large and chunky 42mm wide x 47mm long x 18mm thick tonneau-shaped stainless steel case in Excellent vintage condition showing its original satin finish on top with only some minor scuffs and scratches and no real dings to speak of. This Chronoking shares the highly water resistant case construction of the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf and the JLC Polaris II with not only a screw-in water-resistant caseback but also a polygon screwed crystal retaining ring. The back shows a bit more surface wear and scratches but the Nivada logo and all other nomenclature are still quite crisp--Very Good+ cosmetic condition. The inner back is corrosion free. Not only is this case a bit of a design marvel but it's also very hard to find in such un-abused condition!
DIAL & HANDS: Excellent+ to Near Mint original matte black dial with orange minute track, white engine turned subregisters with the minute counter having blue 5-minute accents. Very hard to find a Chronoking dial in this sort of condition--most are thrashed. All original luminous markers are present, albeit not very light reactive. Original hour and minute "stick" hands are Excellent with just some small signs of age to the luminous including one pinhole to the minute hand and the silver sweep seconds chrono hand is Near Mint. The 3 small subregister hands are also original and Near Mint.
CROWN & PUSHERS: Original signed push-in crown sits tightly to the case, pulls out to the winding and non-hacking time-set positions as it should. The pusher at "2" starts & stops the timer and the pusher at "4" resets the minute counter and snaps it back to "12" crisply.
CRYSTAL: Original high-pressure mineral crystal with inner printed Tachymeter scale is very clean and with only a few small nicks--Excellent to Near Mint.
BEZEL: Original bidirectional ratcheting elapsed time bezel is exceptionally tight and clean with sharp, well defined knurling--easily Near Mint. The original black Perspex inlay is also very clean with only one small mark near "10", likewise Near Mint condition, and all numerals and figures are present.
MOVEMENT: This great Nivada features the legendary Valjoux 726 17-jewel manual wind chronograph caliber with shock protection under the hood. I believe a lot of these Chronokings were made with the less desirable 7736, so finding one with the preferred column wheel movement is a nice bonus. As stated above, this watch was last serviced about a year ago and so is running strong and all functions work as they should. This is guaranteed to be the case at the time of shipping.
STRAP: This Chronoking comes on a vintage black genuine Isofrane strap (ref. 52077) that compliments it beautifully and is in Near Mint condition. This watch has a 19mm lug width. These vintage Isofrane straps are great added value to any vintage diver.
I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form. Have it tested if you want to use it as a diver or for any other aquatic activities.
This great Nivada Grenchen is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.
Thanks for looking,
T.
