Selling part of a friend's collection with my 100% backing. I am in possession of the watch and will handle the shipping; payment will go directly to him.
Up for sale is this genuine and very scarce vintage Aqualung "Skin 666" diver's chronograph in full size water resistant steel case. This great vintage diver is 100% original and dates from the 1960s. These watches with the "Aqua-Lung" logo were sold with other dive equipment by the U.S. Divers Company through their catalogs and dive shops alongside such heavy hitters as the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and, later, many types of Doxa divers. This is a gorgeous example in Near Mint overall condition with a beautiful gold-accented dial with gilt hands, unpolished case and original black bezel insert. This great Skin 666 is powered by the highly desirable Landeron 248 column wheel movement. It was last fully serviced about a year ago and so it is keeping great time with all chronograph and timekeeping functions operating as they should. To put the cherry on top of the sundae, this hard-to-find vintage diver comes on a period correct original black rubber Tropic strap.
The asking price for this exceptional example of Aqualung diver's chrono is $1850 USD OBRO including fully insured FedEx shipping worldwide. Bank Wire preferred but Paypal is OK on this transaction with +2% to the buyer. Payment must be made directly to my consignor in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.
CASE & BACK: Full sized 38mm wide x 47mm long x 12mm thick stainless steel case in Near Mint vintage condition with virtually no blemishes to the original polished finish. In fact the watch appears to have been barely worn and what marks there are more like shop wear. This Aqualung Skin 666 is beautifully proportioned and wears really well on the wrist. The polygon screw-in back shows mildly more surface wear but is still essentially Near Mint and all nomenclature is factory crisp. The inner back is corrosion free and contains the Schild Co. legend. Not only is this a rare Aqualung-branded watch in general but it's remarkable to find one in such pristine condition.
DIAL & HANDS: Mint original matte black dial with white printed tachymeter and telemeter tracks, engine turned subregisters and gold dial markers & Aqualung logo. All original luminous dots are present, albeit not very light reactive. Original gilt hour and minute hands are Near Mint with the most minor signs of age but all luminous fill is intact, including the triangle tip of the chrono sweep seconds, and it has acquired a lovely patina. The 2 small subregister hands are also gilt and Near Mint. Just a gorgeous and complex dial in top-notch condition.
CROWN & PUSHERS: Original, correct oversized and unsigned push-in crown sits tightly to the case, winds and pulls out to the non-hack time-setting positions as it should. Unlike most chronographs, the pusher at "2" starts the timer but the pusher at "4" stops and resets the minute counter and snaps it back to "12" crisply.
CRYSTAL: Original domed plexi glass crystal is very clean, clear and chip free with only a few small rub marks that could easily be polished out--Excellent+ to Near Mint.
BEZEL: Original bidirectional anodized aluminum elapsed time bezel is exceptionally tight and clean with sharp, well defined knurling and minimal loss of black paint--easily Near Mint. The original black metal inlay with golden crown & numerals and silver figures is also very clean with only one or two small marks, likewise Near Mint condition.
MOVEMENT: This great watch features the robust Landeron caliber 248 17-jewel manual wind chronograph movement with Incabloc shock protection under the hood. As stated above, this watch was last serviced about a year ago and so is running strong and all functions work as they should. This is guaranteed to be the case at the time of shipping.
STRAP: This Aqualung chrono comes on a vintage black genuine Tropic strap that compliments it beautifully and is in barely-worn Near Mint condition. This watch has a 19mm lug width. These vintage Tropic straps are great added value to any vintage diver, as well as highly aesthetically pleasing.
I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form. Have it tested if you want to use it as a diver or for any other aquatic activities.
This great Aqualung Skin 666 is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.
Thanks for looking,
T.
