Rules: Postings must be an ad announcing an intent to sell, buy or trade. Full item description and photo(s) must be posted within the message here, not as links to other websites. Links to online auctions and other sites: Links to online auctions, dealer sites or other listings of items are permitted, but you should be careful to ensure that such listings will comply with our other ChronoTrader Policies. In addition, we request that sellers linking to online auctions or listings offer some benefit or accomodation to ChronoTrader readers (for example, some discount or an undertaking to end an auction early, to keep a watch "in the family"). Photos must be of the actual item for sale in its present condition. No counterfeit or replica products. No post for the same item may be repeated within 7 days, except to lower the asking price. Commercial dealers are limited to three unique posts per day. [More...]
Up for sale is the following Gama Automatic, a decent vintage dive watch with an original water resistance of 200m equipped with a Durowe 7525 (INT) movement. The brand name belongs to the company G. A. Müller from Pforzheim, Germany, founded in 1910.
Case: The stainless steel case is in very good condition with the original sunburst graining on its upper side, super-sharp edges and polished sides that do not show anything more but the usual superficial micro-scratches after approx. 40 years of life. The only visual downside is a small dent and a corresponding scratch on the lower right hand side horn (probably from an earlier strap change, see pictures 3 and 5), that’s really nothing serious for a watch from the 1970s. The bezel turns bi-directionally (no ratchet), has a minor dent close to the 27 minutes position and a lume dot that is still slightly glowing. The caseback appears to have been refinished at some point in time but all imprints are perfectly legible to the naked eye. This diver watch originally was water resistant up to 200m - but, of course, please do not expect this attribute from a vintage watch without having performed an appropriate pressure test.
Dial and hands: Imho, that’s the highlight of the entire watch. The dial's colour is anthracite with all original luminous material intact. As there’s a lot of lume applied on the dial and the hands (characteristic cobra-style minute hand!) they still glow in the dark (strongly, albeit shortly) in a greenish colour.
Crystal: The mighty crystal is made of acrylic glass (Plexi) and without any blemishes.
Movement: The automatic Durowe 7525 (INT) movement with 25 jewels offers hand-winding as well as a date at the 3 o'clock position that can be quick-set in the non-screwed and unsigned crown’s first setting position. The movement’s accuracy is absolutely normal within usually expected vintage specifications of a non-chronometer. Hand-winding is smooth and when I put the manually wound watch down in its dial up position it showed a deviation of approx. +35s after 24h. I do not know the entire service history but when I bought the watch slightly over two years ago it came freshly oiled from a vintage watch dealer with an amplitude between 250 and 300 degrees. Nevertheless, here’s the usual disclaimer: If you intend wearing a vintage watch on a regular basis you should have it routinely serviced. But don’t worry, this one is definitely ready to be worn occasionally (and I assume that’s the common practice among us watch nerds ;-)
Strap: The watch has a lug width of 18mm and comes with a nicely fitting black Meyhofer vintage leather strap (length: 123/80mm). As it was worn on this strap for no more than maybe three days the leather can be easily called to be as good as new and has no damage.
Well, that’s the entire description to the best of my knowledge, here’s summed up the main parameters:
-) Size: 36mm wide without crown, 39mm wide incl. crown
-) Lug-to-lug: approx. 42mm
-) Lug width: 18mm
-) Height: approx. 14mm
-) Movement: Durowe 7525 (INT), 25 jewels, 21.600 bph; oiled over two years ago
-) Crystal: highly-built acrylic glass (overlaying the case by approx. 4mm)
-) Strap: very soft black vintage-style leather strap with grained surface finish
Price: I am offering this nice vintage dive watch for EUR 190,- incl. standard shipping within Europe (other forms of shipping, e.g. express, overseas etc., to be discussed). The watch is located in Austria and so am I. This is my first sales ad posted via this forum but I do have plenty of international references from various watch enthusiasts (also known here), so please feel free to ask for them.
I am selling this watch as a private collector. Therefore, it comes without any guarantee. However, I am offering to give a full refund less shipping expenses in case the watch would not be as described by me.
Here are the pictures (the last two pics are from my archive; the perlon strap from the wristshot is not part of the offering):
Kind regards,
F.Antl
