Heuer Autavia -- Viceroy Version
Legendary Automatic Chronograph

Heuer introduced the automatic Autavias in 1969, and beginning in 1972 produced the more colorful "Viceroys" which were offered as a promotion for Viceroy cigarettes. Click here for additional information about the "Viceroy" Autavias, and additional photographs of the watch being sold.

The Viceroy featured brushed steel hands, with red inserts and triangular red tips. The rotating Tachymeter bezel and 12-hour recorder made the Viceroy a favorite for timing races and rallies.

The automatic Autavias are large chronographs, but the one offered is an early version of the Viceroy, and is slightly smaller than later versions. 42 mm across the dial, 47 mm lug-to-lug, and 13 mm thick (back of case to top of bezel). Bezel is ratcheted, and rotates both directions.
|
|
Here is the Cal 12 movement from the actual chronograph being sold. The movement is very clean, and the chronograph operates properly (start / stop / reset) and keeps excellent time (within 10 seconds per day).
|

Vintage Heuer chronographs are RED HOT lately, with prices having risen dramatically for the Automatic Autavias. The "Viceroys" are among the most collectible of all the Autavias, and it is particularly difficult to find an unmolested original in such outstanding condition.
