Tissot was founded in Le Locle, Switzerland, in 1853 by Charles-Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile. Over the years, Tissot
established a lucrative trade in high-grade clocks and timepieces with Czarist Russia, a market which flourished until the Russian
Revolution in 1917. In 1925, Tissot established a business and watchmaking relationship with the Omega Watch Co. The grandson of Tissot's founder, Charles, was named to Omega's board of directors, and the alliance between Tissot and Omega has continued to this day. While the two watchmaking operations have remained distinct over the years, they have occasionally colloborated in the production of timepieces. This 1940's vintage Tissot/Omega calibre 5802 "doctor's" chronograph is a very rare and early example of this colloboration. Here's the details on this exquisite and historically significant complicated timepiece: TISSOT/OMEGA (Two Register "Doctor's" Chronograph) - Excellent 36mm Omega-signed stainless steel snapback case with rose gold finished case top and elliptical chronograph push buttons at 2:00 and 4:00, Tissot-signed 17 jewel calibre 5802 chronograph movement, excellent aged original highly detailed black dial with two sunken registers (constant seconds and minutes to 30), outer tachymetre and inner telemeter chapter rings, along with doctor's "gradue pour 30 pulsations" chapter ring, gold leaf hands and chronograph sweep seconds, onion crown, black leather strap. The stainless steel snapdown caseback on this vintage "doctor's" chronograph is signed Omega with the reference number 2505-6. The rose gold finished case top is in excellent condition with no visible wearthrough, although the ellipitical chronograph push buttons show typical wear. The Tissot-signed 17 jewel calibre 5802 chronograph movement appears to have a Lemania chronograph base, and is very similar to Omega's calibre 33,3 chronograph movement (the precursor to the reknown calibre 321). The movement has recently been serviced, and is running fine, keeping excellent time, and the chronograph functions work as designed, including resetting crisply to zero. The aged original and highly complicated black dial is signed both "Tissot" and "Omega Watch Co.," and features gilt lettering and calibration, and tachymetre, telemetre, and doctor's "gradue pour 30 pulsations" chapter rings. This is a rare and historically significant doctor's chronograph that is highly collectible! VERY RARE 1940's VINTAGE TISSOT/OMEGA WATCH CO. CALIBRE 5802 TWO-REGISTER "DOCTOR'S" CHRONOGRAPH WITH AGED ORIGINAL AND HIGHLY DETAILED DIAL! Sell for $1495 plus shipping ($15 US Delivery or $35 International).
