Up for sale is this extremely rare cult classic Omega Speedsonic "Lobster" Chronograph ref. ST 308.0800 from the 1970s with Omega Bienne Service Papers from 2005, where it was fully overhauled and refurbished. This space age f300 Hz tuning fork chrono features its original extra-scarce mirror finish dial and full-length integrated "Lobster Tail" bracelet, hence its nickname. This Speedsonic is in true all around Near Mint condition.
The price for this exceedingly rare & well-provenanced Omega is $4,250 USD including fully insured worldwide shipping. Bank Wire preferred on this transaction but we can talk about other payment options. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.
CASE & BACK: Iconic & futuristic curved SS case with polished bezel and brushed sides. The case was completely restored at the 2005 service and is now in Near Mint condition with only the slightest of light scuffs to the brushed finish from wear. Bezel is likewise Near Mint with some minor scratches. Perfect hippocampus and SEAMASTER on the outer caseback and all correct reference numbers present within.
DIAL & HANDS: Original mirror-finished dial was polished up by Omega to Near Mint condition, with only some very minor and faint scratches visible at certain angles. I believe Omega also relumed the dots above the applied markers with Luminova, as they glow brightly after light exposure. Hands were all replaced (you will also receive the originals) and the hour & minute hands are now Luminova and glow for maximum functionality.
MOVEMENT: Legendary Omega battery-powered cal. 1250 f300 tuning fork movement with integrated chronograph module. This movement was completely rebuilt by Omega, as evidenced by the bag of coils and other replaced parts that you will receive with this collector’s package. The watch is keeping perfect time and all chrono functions operate and reset flawlessly. The only major bugaboo with these day/date versions of the f300 is the dual day/date changeover, which is subject to sluggishness and sticking due to the use of plastic wheels. Even after Omega’s overhaul, there are days when the day (in Spanish) will lag and not change over. However, pulling the crown out to the quickset position rectifies this easily, as the corrector operates perfectly. (Note: NEVER change the day/date between 9 PM & 3 AM—you will damage the mechanism, possibly irreparably. I recommend changing at around 6:30 AM to avoid any kind of problem.)
CROWN & PUSHERS: Correct Omega-signed crown and rectangular pushers were replaced by Omega at service and you will also receive the originals. The crown hacks the movement when pulled out, sets the day & date in the first detent position (clockwise for day then counter clockwise for the date) and sets the time in the second position. The top pusher starts & stops the chrono and the bottom resets it; both are super crisp.
CRYSTAL: Flat mineral-type crystal with inner printed Tachymetre scale. The xtal has a trio of very small chips between “90” & “100” on the scale, the only flaws.
BAND: Integrated SS ref. 1212/203 Lobster tail bracelet with satin finished links and matching brushed deployant clasp. This bracelet, which is no longer available from Omega, was completely refinished by them on ’05. It is currently sized to fit my 7 1/4” wrist but includes the spare link(s) that originally came with it. This special bracelet is in absolutely Near Mint condition.
ACCESSORIES: This amazing Speedsonic comes with all paperwork relating to Omega’s service of the watch, as well as the red traveling case and all spare parts returned with the watch after its trip to Bienne, including movement parts, hands, day & date wheels and even the original springbars! This kind of provenance makes an already significant watch a bona fide blue chip collectible.
I make absolutely no guarantees for the water resistance of this watch...as you can see, neither did Omega! ;)
This rare vintage Speedsonic is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.
Thanks for looking,
T.
