Le Cheminant 9 crt Master Mariner model Rolex Turn o graph.

This is so rare it's a 9ct gold divers style chronometer watch, it was so expensive at the time to make and also get the automatic movement graded officially tested & certified as a chronometer to be able to stamp on the dial. Only a handful of these were produced, I've been told under 20 were ever made! There is a real niche following for these watches and this one must be the ultimate in anyone's Le Cheminant collection.

The first references to Le Cheminant are found in 1847 when John Le Cheminant, a jeweller and watch maker, had a shop in Wimpole Street, London. Le Cheminant went on to become one of several companies which supplied precision time pieces to the British Royal Navy with orders being placed in 1909 and 1915 for chronometers.
By 1923 Le Cheminant had become Le Cheminant & Co with premises at Wigmore Street in London and the company continued to trade successfully. In 1957, probably around the time this particular watch was made, the company was bought by a Suffolk family, the Betts, who were watchmakers and jewellers.
At this time Le Cheminant was among several companies which supplied precision timepieces to the British Royal Navy. In 1909 and 1915 the Royal Navy bought chronometers costing £19 and £16 10/- that saw service on the HMS Dido and HMS Titania respectively.[6]The Royal Navy also purchased deck watches[clarification needed] from Le Cheminant – a batch of six in December 1915, costing between £5 5/- and £5 15/-, and another batch of six in December 1915, costing between £6 5/- and £6 15/-. Most of these were retired from service in the 1930s. Until then, the watches served on a variety of ships, including Motor Torpedo Boats (HTMB 033, 052 and 055); L1, a British L-class submarine; P15, a Royal Navy patrol vessel, and HMS Collingwood.
