FS: 1954 Rolex Semi-Bubbleback 6285 Waffle Dial *PIC*

Before Rolex began developing tool watches as we know them today, i.e. the Submariner, GMT Master, and Explorer II, adventurers and professionals relied on the mighty Oyster Perpetual to provide a reliable reading in tough terrains. An Oyster Perpetual famously accompanied Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay as they made their historic summit of Mount Everest. The Oyster Perpetual has always been celebrated for its durable exterior, boasting an Oyster case that is waterproof up to 100 meters.

This glorious vintage rolex ref. 6285 boasts the Oyster case and comes with a rare waffle dial which has been refinished in the past. This waffle dial is topped with arrowhead hour markers and comes with original sword hands as well as the fabulous blue second hand.

The movement is a cal. 645 workhorse with the famous "Breguet hairspring" and is ultra stable and reliable. Watch is keeping time well but service history is unknown. Please note that this is a vintage watch and as such, it is recommended for a service after shipment (although I personally don't think it is necessary at all). Please assume that it is not water resistant as well for a watch of this age.

Caseback takes the unusual "bubble back" shape and hence the nickname of "semi bubbleback" given to this rolex model.

Leather strap is signed "Rolex Geneve" and buckle is of unknown origins (unsure whether it is original rolex buckle or aftermarket).

Serial number is still visible between the lugs with a lope. Hard to picture the serial number and model number between lugs due to corrosion.
