FS: Early Gold Capped 1960's Omega Constellation (Boxed)

Hi all - this watch is also for sale on EBay item ref. 270444267118 with pictures.

A long time ago I was left an Omega watch by my Granddad. He was in the RAF and I believe he bought the watch abroad sometime during the 1960’s. I am now looking to sell this watch to fund another project.

I don’t know a lot about the watch but here is some information I have gathered from online research: -

I believe the watch to be an Omega Constellation cal 551, case number 14766 (although it could be a 14381), gold cap from around 1963 - 65. Not having seen the inside of the watch it is hard to tell. CK 14766 International collection 1963. Movement Type: Automatic chronometer certified. Caliber number: 551, 24 jewels.
Central sweep-second hand. Case - Gold capped, case back is screw-in full metal. Dial “Pie pan” type, with "Dauphine" hands, Crystal Armoured hesalite (domed). Bracelet Leather original Omega. Case: round (34.2 mm diameter), screw-in case back with “O-ring” gasket. The crown winder is also original Omega with the Omega symbol on it.

I do not believe the box is original to the watch, although it is the right era. I am 99.9% certain that this is the box that the watch came in from new, so I can only assume a mistake by the supplying jeweller. Apparently this was fairly common. The box is red leather with suede inner – it has a secret compartment below where the watch sits. It also has the original suede cover cloth as pictured. The box and cover cloth are in fantastic condition.

The watch has ceased to work within the last 12 months – it worked perfectly fine before that but now does not seem to wind itself. I do not know the reasoning behind this. I put it in the drawer wound and working, and when I took it out 12 months later the hands have never moved.

I have attached some photographs of the watch and box - I can arrange viewing of the watch in Birmingham UK or can take other photographs if required. If you have any questions about the watch please email me and I'll get back to you as quick as possible.

This really is a fantastic watch in excellent condition, and I would love it to go to a collector that will enjoy it. It's a shame but it just sits at the back of my sock drawer and does not get seen very often.
