FS: Vintage Omega ref. 105.002 Speedmaster Pre-Pro on 7912

Up for sale is this very rare 1962 Pre-Professional ref. 105.002 Omega Speedmaster featuring the legendary caliber 321 column wheel chronograph movement. This hard-to-find transitional Speedy features an unpolished straight lug/no crown guard case, a gorgeous Mint original applied-logo dial and full dagger/alpha/baton sweep seconds handset. When it is found at all, the 105.002 can be found with a few different hands configurations, this seemingly anachronistic early 2998-style being the rarest. It is clear to me that Omega used the 105.002 reference to finish up stocks of old hands before the standardization of ref. 105.003 (all stick hands). To put the cherry on top of the sundae, this great Speedy comes on its period correct and incredibly scarce 7912 flat link expandable bracelet. Overall, the watch is in Excellent vintage condition and the pristine cal. 321 engine was just serviced. Simply an amazing and seldom seen Speedy!

The price for this classic Vintage Omega Speedmaster rarity is $7,750 USD including fully insured worldwide shipping. Bank Wire only on this transaction. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.

CASE & CASEBACK: Broad-shouldered straight lug case shows no signs of polishing, as the original satin finish on the sides is still apparent. The case is in Very Good vintage condition, with a couple of dings to the sides and a few other minor scratches, which is to be expected after nearly 50 years of service. Outer screwed caseback shows its original factory spiral finish and crisp Hippocampus with only very minor marks—easily Excellent cosmetic condition. Inner caseback has all correct Omega period hallmarks including the rare reference and date code of 62 in characteristic small font and casemaker's signature "S.C.", all of which all original 105.002s seem to have. The inner case and caseback are essentially corrosion free and the inner dust/anti-magnetic cover is also present, of course.

DIAL & HANDS: Beautiful original applied-logo non-Professional pie pan dial featuring a lovely biscuity patina to the lume bars and not yet marked with the “T”s for Tritium bracketing SWISS MADE. I am unable to detect any flaws in this dial and so I can only describe it as being in Mint condition. Alpha hour and minute hands have a slightly lighter tint to their lume but it too appears original. The baton sweep seconds is interesting in that it is unpainted metallic silver and I can find no traces of the usual white paint on it. The chrono register hands are ultra-desirable dagger-style, which really put this Speedy in the "special" category, with just a bit of paint loss to the minute recording hand. Overall, the complete handset is Excellent to Near Mint with negligible corrosion.

CROWNS & PUSHERS: Oversized signed Omega winding crown and "small head" pushers are Excellent. I must admit to being uncertain as to whether these are original equipment for 1962 or have been replaced over the life of the watch. Everything else being so original on this Speedy, I am inclined to assume that these are as well but am open to correction on that. The crown winds and pulls out to the time-setting position as it should. The top pusher stops and starts the chronograph as it should and the bottom pusher resets all chrono registers precisely to zero as designed. There is no hour register creep.

BEZEL: Wonderfully faded original charcoal Tachymeter bezel insert (see the position of the 90 dot) has a couple of nicks and some wear but is easily Very Good and the steel pressure-fit bezel itself is Excellent.

CRYSTAL: Original Omega-signed domed armored Hesalite crystal with silver inner rim shows signs of previous polishing but is Excellent with only minor superficial marks/scuffs.

MOVEMENT: Legendary Omega cal. 321 column wheel chronograph movement, NASA’s choice for all manned space missions until the advent of the 861, with 19 million serial number, the precise range for the very limited-production 105.002. As stated above, the watch has just been serviced, with the copper colored movement pristine visually and all timekeeping and chronograph functions operating flawlessly.

BRACELET: This great Speedmaster comes on an equally rare ref. 7912 flat link expansion bracelet date coded “3 63” (so also most likely original to the watch) in Excellent condition with virtually no unwanted link stretch and only superficial scratches to the bracelet and raised logo clasp. It should fit around a 7.5" wrist without needing to expand. Endpieces are correct and matching 19mm “6”s. If for some reason you don't want the bracelet, I would be happy to keep it and will discount the price of the watch accordingly.

I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form due to its age and the dodgy water resistance of most vintage chronos in general.

This great Vintage Speedmaster is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer. This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

Thanks for looking,
