Up for sale is this lovely circa mid-1960s Tudor ref. 7966 stainless steel "Small Rose" Prince Oysterdate featuring a Near Mint matte black dial with the same texture as the Rolex Sports models of the period. This unusual dress model features an all-correct Rolex-signed 3-body Oyster case & crown and is in Very Good overall original vintage condition. It features a semi-quickset ETA-based Auto-Prince automatic cal. 2484, the same movement found in the early 7021 Snowflake Subs, that is running very well. It's not easy to find black dial Tudor dress watches from this period and this one is a honey!

Vintage Tudors are great watches in their own right and represent the perfect opportunity to get Rolex quality at a fraction of the cost. Absolutely one of the best values in the vintage watch game, hands down.

CASE & BACK: Classic Tudor gents size 34mm wide (not including crown) x 41mm long case shows little if any polish with the lugs quite thick and sharp and the lug holes not distorted. The original satin finish of the top lugs has been smoothed out back to shiny from years of wear. Mirrored sides have some scratches and nicks with one ding to the top left lug. Model number & complete 576,k serial number (dating the watch to circa 1966) show what looks like endpiece wear between their respective lugs but are legible. Conservatively and by my strict standards, I rate the case as in Very Good and perhaps unpolished vintage condition. The outer caseback has numerous scratches and also shows little if any polish. The standard "Oyster Case" nomenclature is very sharp and the knurling is undamaged--Good to Very Good cosmetic condition overall. The inner caseback is without a model number but is stamped with all correct "Montres Tudor" nomenclature as well as "C.R.S.," the same case manufacturer's signature found on the Rolex Daytonas of the mid 1960s to early 70s. Neither the inner case or the inner back show any corrosion.

DIAL & HANDS: Beautiful Near Mint original factory printed matte black pie pan Small Rose logo dial with zero flaws to the surface and virtually no signs of aging. The only thing keeping this dial from being Mint is the loss/deterioration of some of the original Tritium lume dots. This dial has the same matte black finish and white printing of the Rolex Sports models of the period and features handsome cream-accented rhodium bar markers. Almost military-style stick hands show a bit more age, Excellent, but still have their original Tritium luminous fill. Simply a very cool and unusual sport-dress hybrid layout on this elegant Tudor!

BEZEL: Original smooth Explorer-style bezel also shows little if any polish with sharp edges, some small scratches and a nick to the 9 o’clock side--Very Good to Excellent overall condition.

CROWN: Correct Rolex Twinlock crown screws down tightly, and pulls out to the winding and non-hack time setting positions as it should.

CRYSTAL: Correct older-style big bevel, rounded edge Cyclope crystal in Excellent condition with just a few superficial scratches. The magnifier aligns with the date window perfectly.

MOVEMENT: Semi-quickset Tudor 25-jewel automatic cal. 2484 (ETA). With semi-quick movements, one moves the hands between about 20:00 and 24:00 hours to rapidly advance the date. While I do not know the service history and cannot guarantee that it will not need service in future, this watch is running strong and keeping great time with correct date changeover near midnight and of course I guarantee this to be the case at the time of shipment.

BAND: This classic Tudor comes on a brand new black genuine lizard 19mm strap with generic steel buckle that perfectly suits the elegance of this watch.

As I have opened this Tudor to take photos of the movement & inner back and screwed it back down with just my hand wrench, as well as never having it pressure tested myself, I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch.
