FS: 1962 Russian SEKONDA STRELA 3017 Chronograph – EXCELLENT!

1962 Russian SEKONDA STRELA
19-Jewel 3017 Chronograph
1st Watch Worn in Open Space
Excellent Condition

For sale from my personal vintage collection is this early example of the Russian Strela chronograph, featuring the 19-jewel cal. 3017 movement. The Russians purchased the Venus 150 movement and its manufacturing equipment from the Swiss in the late 1950s, rechristening it the 3017 when introducing the Strela (“arrow”) model in 1959. Russian Cosmonaut Alexey Leonov wore a Strela on the outside of his spacesuit on March 18, 1965 when he became the first man to walk in space, during his Voskhod 2 flight. Based on the serial number of the movement, this example was made in approximately 1962.

This Strela is in excellent original condition, with barely a mark on the case. The crystal is clear and the dial and hands hardly show signs of patina. The movement is pristine, with all timekeeping and chronograph functions working properly, although the movement will occasionally stop, needing a bit of coaxing to continue, indicating that a service is likely due. This Strela is fitted with a near new black buffalo leather NATO strap to fit any size wrist.

The original Strela model was manufactured from 1959-1979, and not many examples have aged well. This one is a rare find, being both a very early piece, and one in outstanding cosmetic condition.

Offered at $695.00 insured and shipped worldwide. NO TRADES. I can accept PayPal for U.S. deliveries and bank transfers for international deliveries.
