FS: Orvis Solunagraph *PIC*

A MUST HAVE FOR THE APPRECIATOR OF FINE THINGS

This watch was made in Switzerland expressly for the Orvis outfitters on their 125th anniversary and is very rare for a battery-operated chronograph: 1 of only 125 ever made. It is so rare that it is very difficult to find a dealer that has ever heard of it much less seen one, and even the Orvis museum has failed to retain a copy. This watch is truly unique, there has been nothing made like it ever before its sole year of manufacture in 1981 and nothing like it ever since: it is the only true solunagraph telling time by both the sun (sol) and the pictured moon (luna). Some chronographs show the phases of the moon, some show its location in the sky: this is the only one ever made that does both! It comes with a Certificat d’Epreuves de l’Observatoire Astronomique et Chronometrique de la republique et canton de Neuchatel, Suisse. Not even Heuer, usually considered the benchmark for chronographs, has produced anything like it.

The Solunagraph not only shows the phase of the moon, it also shows whether the moon is waxing or waning: a cresent on the left indicates a waxing moon, on the right means a waning moon and as the month passes you’ll see all its changing phases as they happen and accurately displayed. In other words, the way you see the moon in the sky (or would if it were visible) is exactly what the watch will show you from its special moon window. When the moon is below the horizon, a striped moon image replaces the solid one so you even know where “beneath your feet” it is.

You can go to www.heirloom2.com for example and see how crude other so-called moon phase watches are compared to the Orvis Solunagraph.

The Solunagraph is all-original and is in superb condition: the movements perform perfectly, the crystal is pure, clear and blemish free. It comes with all original literature, instructions, velvet covered and fully lined presentation box, extra strap and even the original wrapping paper and shipping carton! This watch is very rare, truly unique, and eminently practical. You will be able to both display it proudly and use it practically.

This superb chronometer is available for $1,499. We can consider payment in US funds only please, and insurance and postage paid anywhere in the world is not extra but is considered as part of the price. Please go to http://community.website.com/user/pegasos8 to view photos of the Solunagraph and contact me at vikrantas@netzero.net for purchase arrangements.

I thank you in advance for your interest.

A MUST HAVE FOR THE SERIOUS SPORTSMAN, SAILOR, ASTROLOGER or COLLECTOR
Please read the interesting information below and learn in detail of its amazing practical value.

THE MOON AND ITS MOVEMENT

Of all the known objects in the sky, our moon is unique. The ratio of its mass to that of the earth is by far the largest satellite to planet mass ratio known; in fact, the moon is so large relative to the earth that its gravita¬tional pull causes us to "wobble" in our orbit around the sun. While it is common to say that the moon revolves around the earth, it is more correct to say that earth and moon revolve together around a point within the earth's circumference, but far from its center. Earth and moon thus constitute a "double planet" — the only one known to astronomy.

The moon and the sun are also about the same apparent size in the sky. Of course, the sun is about 400 times larger than the moon in reality, but it's also about 400 times as far away. It is this apparent equality in size that makes solar eclipses possible.

The daily or nightly motion of the moon across the sky is, actually caused by the earth's rotation about its axis, and not by the motion of the moon itself. The moon's own motion gives us the lunar phases. Depending on the relative positions of earth, moon, and sun, different portions of the moon's visible side are illuminated, by sunlight, from no illumination at new moon, to complete illumination at full moon.

MOON, TIDE, AND FISH & GAME

It would be strange indeed if such a large object, so close to the earth, had no effect on our lives. The most obvious effect is the tides, which are caused by the moon's gravity. At any given moment, parts of the earth with the moon directly overhead or directly underfoot experience high tide, while those parts of the earth for which the moon is rising or setting experience low tide. This is because, although the moon affects the whole planet, parts of the earth closer to the moon feel the pull more strongly than distant parts. Thus the water closest to the moon is pulled harder than the land underneath it and rises to high tide, while the land farthest from the moon receives a mightier tug than the water that rests on top of it, and so the water "drops" to high tide. This double movement pulls water away from points 90 degrees around the earth's surface (where the moon is rising or setting) and creates low tides in those areas. High tide follows low, and vice-versa, at intervals of about 6 hours (one-fourth of the earth's rotational period of 24 hours).

Some high and low tides are more extreme than others. At new moon and full moon, the moon's gravity receives a boost from the sun's gravity, so the highest and lowest tides occur then. At quarter moon, the sun and moon work against each other, and the tides are less extreme. Not only to determine if the sun’s above the yardarm on a cloudy day, sailors can now know with the Solunagraph, whether on land or water, how the tide’s running.

It the moon's effect on the tides is easily understood, its effect on the behavior of animals is also powerful. Animals and fish are known to be more active when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot, and for a briefer period around moonrise and moonset, than at other times of the day. Serious fishermen, es¬pecially bass men, firmly believe their favorite gamefish are most catchable dur¬ing periods of "moon up" and "moon down”. Years ago, when hunting for market was still practiced, commercial hunt¬ers often swore by this rule and would time their forays to coincide with "moon up" and "moon down". This explains why, for instance, you will catch deer browsing sometimes during the day and sometimes at night.

The Orvis Soluna¬graph watch shows the moon phase and its daily position in the sky at all times. When the moon shown on the upper level of the watch is a solid color it is above the horizon; a striped moon indicates that it is below the horizon . In other words, a solid moon at 12:00 position tells you that the moon is direct¬ly overhead and it striped moon at the 12:00 position tells you it is directly underfoot. A moon directly overhead or underfoot indicates a major activity period, which usually last for approximately 1 & 1/2, hours. This is the major feeding frenzy time that sportsmen can take advantage of by using this watch.

When the solid moon hits the 3:00 position (the striped moon will also appear at the 9:00 position) the moon is setting. When the striped moon hits the 3:00 position (the solid moon will now appear at 9:00) the moon is rising. A rising or setting moon indicates a minor activity period, which lasts for about 1/2 hour: a second chance to fill the freezer or smokehouse. When attempting to predict when you will experience an acti¬vity period, don't forget that the moon image will take two hours to move between 12:00 and 1:00 or 2:00 and 3:00 because it is approximately on a 24 hour cycle.

So too, your romantic moments may be enhanced by including the moon, and knowing when it would shine for you. Many people feel that our biophysical, energetic and emotional rhythms are phased with the moon: you may now use this watch to completely track this for yourself.

Setting the watch is easy and fully explained in the literature.

May the moon always shine for you !
