FS: Jeanrichard Aquastar 60, vintage diver, 1958

When Jacques Piccard and Don Walsh descended in the submarine Trieste to the 10.000 meter/35.000 ft depth at the Mariana Trench in 1960 they had a Rolex strapped to the outside of the submarine, but on his wrist Don Walsh had this:

Well, not this actual watch of course, but this model - the Jeanrichard Aquastar 60, manufactured 1958-62 and designed by Frédéric Robert (later the founder of the Aquastar brand and creator of several Seamaster divers and chronographs at Omega).

The watch for sale is from the first generation, probably from 1958 or 1959, distinguished by the AS 1581 movement (later versions had AS 1701), a two piece caseback and a bezel with an extra large tritium dot.

Steel case, 37 mm excluding crown, 19 mm lugs, rated to 100 meters. Good used condition with the usual scratches and dents. Linen structure on the upper part of the case. Worn but readable caseback. The plastic crystal has a small crack at 7.

The moss green dial probably used to be black, there are still some black spots between 12 and 3. There are also some old scratches from the hour hand. Aged lume on indices and hands.

Movement - automatic AS 1581, it runs, winds and sets. Reasonable timekeeping within approx half a minute per day, power reserve ok but not great, will at least run through the night. Date shifts.

Sold head only.

Price 750 Euro. The watch is in EU, worldwide shipping possible. Several references from OTD/Chronotrader available.
