This vintage watch was Fully Serviced by ClockSavant and is from our ClockSavant Survivor line of watches— watches that were restored for their importance and not for profitability. The Venus 170 was a breakthrough movement for its time. It included a conventional column wheel design for controlling the chronograph functions with some unique innovations. The movement was a huge marketplace success and major watch manufacturers such as Breitling and others, as well as many small boutique brands, adopted the movement. This Olma Chronograph is an example of a boutique brand imported by a US jeweler whose name is engraved on the case back, Rose Jewelers. Adding to the history, the Olma brand was itself manufactured by Helbros, another Swiss watch company. There were US customs rules on watch importing that produced all sorts of watch marking nuances for collectors to later explore. In this case, we suspect that Rose Jewelers hand engraved the chronograph bridge with Helbros, the manufacturer of import, and sold the watch under Olma, a brand they distributed. What resulted from all of this is a beautifully aged vintage chronograph that has developed quite a bit of character. We were able to restore this vintage watch’s movement to top performance. The silver dial on this vintage watch, aged as it is, sparkles in the sunlight and when you look down on it on your wrist, you will smile. It exudes a great deal of character and beauty. This is a vintage watch for someone who appreciates the character that age can impart on an object that endures time.
