In 1969 Rolex introduced a new movement for the pump pusher Cosmograph range in a watch which otherwise basically presented the same characteristics of the 6239 and or 6264. This new movement was the Valjoux 727 which was more precise and possed higher beats per minute frequency than the previously used Daytona movements which include the Valjoux 72 B then 722 then 722/1. The Rolex Daytona ref 6262 is generally accepted as the least produced Daytona since its production supposedly stopped in 1970, interestingly the Rolex Daytona 6264 was produced until 1972.

The Daytona name came in 1964/1965, when Rolex decided to brand the 6239 Cosmograph reference in order to appeal to the auto racing culture of the USA and was also an official sponsor of the Daytona 500 auto race held in Daytona Beach, FL. We love the vintage Cosmograph range of due to the fact that they have a high level of contrast which is something the modern Rolex Daytona range of timepieces has lost due to the completely monochromatic look of the dials found on today modern reference range.
