FS: Omega Ref. 2179 "US Army" circa 1945

Omega 2179 "US Army", circa 1945 cal. 30T2SC

Serviced Spring 2006

100% Authentic, Ready for Daily Wear

Though it's one of my favorite models, I've now managed to acquire several of these in various states of repair so it's time to thin the herd a little. These are known informally as the Omega "US ARMY" and were distributed to Army/USAAF/USAF in Europe in the closing months of WWII and the early occupation years.

Dial: 100% Original and unrefinished. Patina as seen on this example is expected for these owing to the experimental lacquering technique used. "Eccentric" Art-Deco layout Arabic markers and numbered "railroad track" outer index. Markers were originally luminous but as expected for a watch of this age no longer glow. Minor age markings - see photos.

Hands: original luminous "index style." Unlike the dial they glow slightly and briefly when charged with a flashlight so may have been re-lumed at some point, but patian approximates that of dial so may be original as well. Original blued steel sweep center seconds hand is absolutely gorgeous.

Case: Fully Stainless steel, "waterproof" screwback, 18mm lugs. Lightly polished, some minor tool scratches to caseback (see photos) from slipped tool by previous owner. Noticeable on close inspection but do not detract from appearance of watch when worn. Drilled springbar lugs. Outer caseback is unmarked but I obtained the watch already lightly polished, unknown if there were markings originally. Diameter approx 35mm. Ref. 2179/4

Movement: Omega in-house 16J manual wind caliber 30T2SC (center seconds). 10.1-M s/n# likely dates to 1944-1945. Correct white metal "economy" plate finish as used on all WWII Omega military models. Originally delivered by Omega "adjusted for chronometer" according to original spec. Movement serviced Spring 2006 and runs beautifully.

Crystal: Acryllic. Unmarked, free of noticeable scratches.

Strap: aftermarket Hadley-Roma pigskin with stainless buckle. Some use/wear marks - not new, but entirely serviceable. Drilled lugs also allow for quick & easy replacement at your option.
