Vintage Omega Constellation "Pie Pan" 14k/SS Gold-Top

Cal. 551 24J Automatic, circa 1963

Ref. 167.005

As Always 100% Authentic and Genuine

Omega Constellation Chronometer, circa 1963, with highly desirable "Pie Pan" dial. 14k yellow "gold-top" bezel and lugs on stainless steel case for looks and durability. High precision 24-jewel automatic certified chronometer caliber 551 movement.

Omega's top-of-the-line model line at the time, the Constellation showcased Omega's fabled 55x/56x chronometer-grade movements, of which 100,000 consecutive examples passed chronometer certification according to Anton Kreuzer in Omega Designs, a formidable feat even by modern standards. Renowned by collectors as the absolute apogee of Omega's movement production in its pre-ETA golden age.

Arguably the finest mass-produced movements ever put into a case by any maker to date. While they may not have been able to match the likes of Patek or Vacheron for sheer hand-made artistry, Omega could produce undeniably high-quality, high-performance movements en masse like no other maker of the period.

Omega Vintage Constellation

Dial: Original, unrefinished condition. De Luxe faceted "Pie Pan" style dial with hand-riveted gold baton applied hour markers. Minor lacquer loss blemish near 8 o'clock, pinpoint blemish just above 9 o'clock marker (see photos). Correct and original Dauphine-style hands. Tritium-based luminous material no longer glows, as expected for a watch of this age.

Case: Gold cap bezel and lug top on stainless steel. Screwback closing. Minor tool marks on caseback from opening. Could likely be polished, but I have chosen to leave as-is. Trademark 14k observatory medallion in very good condition and has not been over-polishes as is often the case with these. All 8 stars remain clearly visible. Correct knurled genuine Omega crown.

Movement: 24-jewel Caliber 551, Adjusted 5 positions and temperature. Chronometer certified. Clean and bright, mild signs of wear. Service history unknown, but runs strong and accurately with strong power reserve. 19-million serial number dates to approximately 1963. Beautiful copper "rose gold" finish. Swan's neck fine regulation.

Strap: Ships on attractive black gently used Hirsch reptile grain strap with gold-tone buckle. Also includes a brand new, unworn vintage NOS genuine Omega black genuine crocodile strap (no buckle)* - see photos.
