In 1967 the first Electronic diving watch was launched by Lip, it was called the Nautic Ski. Lip had been experimenting with electronic watches since the early 1950's and was an important brand in the transition period from mechanical to quartz. The Nautic Ski used a traditional EPSA dual crown compressor case, and showed the world that electricity and water could go together.
This is a very early example of the Nautic Ski. Before 1967 there was some experimenting with this watch, showing different crowns, handsets, bezels and fonts. The ultimate design features a 10 minute indicated bezel, cross hatched crowns, Broad pointed hands and white font. The example offered on our website shows everything in which the pre-series can be different.
It features a 36mm steel EPSA case with dual crowns. These crowns are labelled LIP, instead of the traditional cross-hatched pattern. Also, the caseback has the traditional LIP logo. The dial is a beautiful black glossy one with modern, large tritium filled indexes. Furthermore it has a traditional inner rotating bezel with a lume filled triangle. This bezel has a 15-30-45 lay out instead of the later featured 10 minute lay out. Also this watch has Nautic Ski written in a green font. Finally also the hand set is different, yet traditional LIP. The lume on the hand set has colored the same as the indexes, which indicates it is al original. Other examples of the Nautic Ski with these hands are known. The movement is running very good for an electronic example from this era. The watch comes on an aftermarket steel bracelet. Last, but definitely not least, it is complete with its original shop tag!
