Counterfeit Watchers Discussion Forum

A forum for identifying and avoiding wholly or partially non-authentic wristwatches -- including counterfeit, replica, Frankenwatches and other fake or bastardized pieces. Our objective here is to DISCOURAGE the sales and purchase of counterfeit wristwatch and jewelry products. It is also for helping people identify watches that are mostly authentic, but have been: altered for personal customization, repaired with inappropriate parts or modified to be passed off as more valuable pieces.

Including a photo of the piece you are talking about ALWAYS helps! You can learn how to post a photo here: How To Include Photos In Your Postings. 'For sale' postings, commercial solicitation and ads are not allowed. Links to Internet auctions are acceptable only if their purpose is to question the authenticity of a product or provide new clues for identifying counterfeit products. Links that appear to be 'shills' promoting the sale of counterfeit products will be deleted. Links to websites of sellers of counterfeit items are not permitted -- we know they are out there and do not need to be encouraging them by sending traffic to their sites. Privacy, additional policies and administrivia are covered in the Terms of Use.

: are these inscription CYMA TAVANNES WATCH
: CO.could you help me out with time age and
: price.

With all old pocket watches, (save for a few exceptional makes) much depends on its condition, age and the metal it was made of.

I did a quick search on eBay - cut and paste the search terms "cyma (pocketwatch, pocket watch)" without the quotes but with the brackets.

There are plenty of examples there. (I think the chap who's wanting $199 is a bit optimistic - solid gold and he might get his price, but gold plated, as it is, and he won't.)

If you see a watch like yours, it will give you an idea of the age and the price.

Tavannes is the town in Switzerland where Cyma had its factory.

Just on what you write, it sounds as it the watch could be made from 1890 to 1930 but a picture would be the only way of telling (and then it could be somewhat approximate.)

Looking on a balance of probabilities, find the year in which your great-grandfather was 21 and that would give you an idea of the watch's age.

My opinion is that Cyma are underestimated, and that is reflected in the secondhand price of their watches. You are unlikely to be able to retire on the proceeds of the sale: I would keep the watch as a family heirloom and pass it on to your children and then to theirs.
