: Hi,
: I am new to this forum--but it seems the best I
: have seen.
: I would like to purchase a Speedmaster using
: Ebay and I would be very grateful if anyone
: would/could give me some clear basic rules
: which can be followed to identitfy a Genuine
: Omega Speedmaster Reduced (a la 3539.50)from
: a Fake.
: Regards,
: John B..
The clear basic rule is to buy from an AD if you can't tell a faked Speedmaster [or Franken] from an original... The only real easy consistent way to detect a fake is to walk away from any listed watch who's Hour Register dial is at the same hour as the main timekeeping hands. That's a dead giveaway. Just about anything else requires a lot o study on what the real thing looks like and if you're not able or interested in educating yourself, you're best off buying from an authorized dealer. I would be happy to forward you a referral to the "forum favorite" AD in the USA [who also ships internationally [but you'd still be on the hook for any VAT or Custom's taxes if ordering overseas].
There are no real shortcuts to detecting fakes [aside from the "Hour-Register Slaved to the Main Hour hand observation]...
