A forum for identifying and avoiding wholly or partially non-authentic wristwatches --
including counterfeit, replica, Frankenwatches and other fake or bastardized pieces.
Our objective here is to DISCOURAGE the sales and purchase of counterfeit
wristwatch and jewelry products. It is also for helping people identify
watches that are mostly authentic, but have been: altered for personal customization,
repaired with inappropriate parts or modified to be passed off as more valuable pieces.
Including a photo of the piece you are talking about ALWAYS helps! You can learn how to post a photo here: How To Include Photos In Your Postings. 'For sale' postings, commercial solicitation and ads are not allowed. Links to Internet auctions are acceptable only if their purpose is to question the authenticity of a product or provide new clues for identifying counterfeit products. Links that appear to be 'shills' promoting the sale of counterfeit products will be deleted. Links to websites of sellers of counterfeit items are not permitted -- we know they are out there and do not need to be encouraging them by sending traffic to their sites. I would like to present my experience since it seems this is the right forum. Maybe it will save someone from unnecessary headaches in the future.
I bought an Omega Constellation from authenticwatches.com about 5 months ago. Although the price was an attractive factor, it is also true that they had far more variety than any local authorized dealer. After pondering the issue for a couple of weeks, I made the purchase. After all, they have ~99.9% positive feedback on ebay. Well sure enough, the watch is not working properly. The movement is extremely slow, loosing approximately 30 min every 2 hours.
I had the watch sent to a local authorized repair center. They told me the watch’s machinery looks fine superficially. They offered to do an overhaul for $325 to see if that fixed the problem. I told them that I would rather have it sent back to the dealer for repairs under warranty, but the truth is that I’m not sure that I want to send the watch back to them.
Reading ratings for their store in Yahoo Shopping I found that other people have had similar problems. At least 4 of them claim that, after having their watches inspected in an authorized repair center, they were informed that the watches were refurbished.
I don’t intend to persuade anyone regarding where they should buy their watches. However, I must admit that I really wish I had spent the extra $$$ to get the real deal at an authorized dealer. Sorry for the long message. I just feel someone can make use of it.
