Counterfeit Watchers Discussion Forum

A forum for identifying and avoiding wholly or partially non-authentic wristwatches -- including counterfeit, replica, Frankenwatches and other fake or bastardized pieces. Our objective here is to DISCOURAGE the sales and purchase of counterfeit wristwatch and jewelry products. It is also for helping people identify watches that are mostly authentic, but have been: altered for personal customization, repaired with inappropriate parts or modified to be passed off as more valuable pieces.

Including a photo of the piece you are talking about ALWAYS helps! You can learn how to post a photo here: How To Include Photos In Your Postings. 'For sale' postings, commercial solicitation and ads are not allowed. Links to Internet auctions are acceptable only if their purpose is to question the authenticity of a product or provide new clues for identifying counterfeit products. Links that appear to be 'shills' promoting the sale of counterfeit products will be deleted. Links to websites of sellers of counterfeit items are not permitted -- we know they are out there and do not need to be encouraging them by sending traffic to their sites. Privacy, additional policies and administrivia are covered in the Terms of Use.

Re: fake omega de ville from around 1975? Follow up: NO

: Gary and Glenn: thanks for your time
: On the movement: this one has a 684 automatic movement, on the
: Dalor site you will notice that there are numbers on it and also
: what my 684 has: the omega sign above 684. so there is a
: difference.
: on the case: on the dalor site that watch has another band: the
: middle part of the attachement to the case is smaller than on my
: watch. Also the numbers in the clasp differ but that would be
: normal ( if they where the same that would be incorrect and
: indicating a fake band)
: What worries me was the quality glass (could be replacement non
: original) difference in case and band, and no serial number on
: an otherwise signed movement.
: the seller responded he needed time to do a check on the origin and
: repeated it is genuine. I believe I can trust him but that does
: not mean he can not be mistaken. ALL pictures I have seen from
: this watch (including the omega site itself when searching for
: 684 movements in stainless steel) have a different case/band
: combination then mine.
: what worries me less is this: Why woulds someone spend so much
: energy to fake a watch of roughly 500$ at that time.
: any further discussion is welcome, regards
: Willem

folluw up and close out:
The seller gave me an excellent response which I found convincing:
the source of the watch was ok
there is no reason to fake this watch as it is not made in high volumes and not popular enough
a reliable watchmaker worked on it and would have reported issues.
the other issues i had are minor for a second hand watch.
remains differences in case and thus in the steel band, but that can be normal.
therefor I conclude what others already said: good night sleep the thing is genuine.
strange how that can affect ones feeling towards an item
thanks
willem
