Counterfeit Watchers Discussion Forum

A forum for identifying and avoiding wholly or partially non-authentic wristwatches -- including counterfeit, replica, Frankenwatches and other fake or bastardized pieces. Our objective here is to DISCOURAGE the sales and purchase of counterfeit wristwatch and jewelry products. It is also for helping people identify watches that are mostly authentic, but have been: altered for personal customization, repaired with inappropriate parts or modified to be passed off as more valuable pieces.

'For sale' postings, commercial solicitation and ads are not allowed. Links to Internet auctions are acceptable only if their purpose is to question the authenticity of a product or provide new clues for identifying counterfeit products. Links that appear to be 'shills' promoting the sale of counterfeit products will be deleted. Links to websites of sellers of counterfeit items are not permitted -- we know they are out there and do not need to be encouraging them by sending traffic to their sites. Universal Geneve Tri-Compax ref 22258 circa 1944

This is a beautiful Universal Geneve Tri Compax ref 22258, serial number dates to circa 1944 from the US market (you can tell by the UOW import stamp)

Calibre 481. Functions; Seconds, Minutes, Hours, Chronograph, Triple Calendar with english day/month discs

The watch works and keeps time but once the chronograph is engaged for just under a minute the entire watch stops, other functions work properly

All of the hands are in blue steel with the exception of the chronograph second's hands in a faded metallic colour and the date pointer in red. I have seen other Tri Compax with this configuration.

It has been polished by the previous owner

There's a dent on the crown which makes me believe it's the original

The watch must have been in storage for sometime because only half of the moonphase is faded

Gorgeous font, slight marks a bit all over the dial, I'm not sure why or how they got there
