Hello Dave,
This is very interesting info. Thanks. Still I can't perfectly understand in wahat way is the Autavia bezel different from omega or Rolex. Could you explain further or provide pictures? What do you mean by "conical and stepped"?
Best regards
: Okay, I've popped mine off and am looking VERY
: closely at the construction. The Tachy scale
: is not just an insert. The bezel consists of
: 2 pieces. The outer stanless knurled piece
: and a pvd metal inner piece. The pvd piece
: is not that simple to make. It is conical
: and stepped then pressed into the stainless
: ring and probably glued. Not a simple insert
: like Omega and Rolex. The Autavia bezel
: insert has been turned on a lathe and then
: pvd coated the Tachy scale. It is apparent
: that an exact reproduction would be too
: troublesome and costly. Magnification is
: still not conclusive if the Tachy scale is
: sprayed (painted) or applied (very thin
: sticker). Either way, my next step is to
: take this bezel (generously loaned) and get
: a high quality scan. I will see how thin of
: a metalized sticker I can have made. More to
: come later.
