1977 makes perfect sense as the time for the introduction of this black-coated version of the barrel-shaped Carrera.
It was in 1977 that Heuer developed the Monza, which was basically a black-coated Carrera Ref 1153 case. So at the same time that Heuer introduced the black-coated Monza, it must have coated the barrel-shaped Carrera.
