If you would let me design the next TAG-Heuer boxed set, I would keep it very simple -- a Rallymaster Pair, as follows:- chronograph would be called the Monte Carlo; in a dream world, it would have the rotating hour disc and the pusher to advance the hours; in the real world, I would be happy with any 12-hour chrono that takes its styling cues from the dashboard Monte Carlo
- watch would be called the Master Time; time-of-day only (non-chrono); 3-6-9-12 for the numbers; legibility the key design driver; Chronoswiss was going the right direction, but they got carried away with the crown
- boxed set would display them with some sort of mounting plate
This would be the perfect pair for me -- one chrono and one simple watch, both in black dials, with some limited run of white dials (just like the vintage dashboard pieces).
In this fantasy world, we will keep pricing at the 1959 level -- $57.50 for the Master Time; $52.50 for the Monte Carlo; $110 for the pair.
