By robust I did indeed mean 'spirited' which was your interpretation but it underlines my point. You are a positive person and took my choice of word in that light, others could have taken it to mean it should be a free for all. Well, yeah... assume neutral or positive first.
By our nature we want/are enthusiasts! We want enthusiastic and even passionate participation in our forums. There is no problem with people having opinions and viewpoints up but not the past of being destructive to themselves, others and the community.
A "just so everyone is in the clear" general notice:
Short of posting Porn or other non-Family Friendly content, nothing will get swifter moderator response/action than personal attacks impuning the reputation of another person or open and public defiance of moderator directive(s) that have informed the participants their actions are in violation of posted guidelines and to "Knock it off" and/or "tone it down!".
Those are "hot button" actions that will get a swift and noticeable response. I'm far far more tolerant of personal attacks towards me than I am of other participants. Why? Because that's part of the moderator's job.
David, that's not directed to you, or really anyone, specifically. It's just the way it is here.
Any chance of introducing a set of emoticons on the forum? I think I have a set on my site that people can use to include in their posts: |
Graphical Emoticons for Forum Contributors...
People should of course be careful of the use of "Devil" and "Bozo" to refer to others...
We might be able to include a permenent link in convenient places, but I'm not going to promise that. The could prove to be a very technically demanding request that we might not be able to pull off. But perhaps I can work up some directions (and cut & paste text) for including them in posts as an alternative.
These do allow posters more leeway and can turn an apparent insult into a bouquet. I know it can be done with various keyboard characters but some of us are past the age of figuring out how to make them up! Gotcha!
As long as the forum rules are balanced then it will be good. So many other forums have become mini-dictatorships where you post a question or comment at your peril. This place is our swimming pool, as long as people follow the guidelines the lifeguards won't have to blow the whistle.
