The recycling of old watches seems to depend on how they are powered. Generally mechanical watches are repaired, refurbished, or parted out and are not often discarded.
I have discovered by experience that poorly functioning old electric watches are not readily fixed as the spare parts do not exist. A non repairable electric is worth only the value of the metal in the case, and so frequently ends up in the landfill.
As Chuck Maddox will readily attest, old worn out Macintosh computers are being recycled in a very imaginative way. They are turned into aquariums. Do a search for macaquarium and see.
Applying this technique to a defunct electric watch I now present you with the “Seiko Aquarium”
