Maybe I'm confused

maybe I'm confused, but I had always thought that the name "Carrera" first appeared on the dial of a Heuer in 1964.

I have some catalogs and brochures from around 1960 / 62 / 63. . . lots of "no-name" Heuer chronographs (Reference 404 and 2444, for example), but no "Carreras". and what of all the "40th Anniversary of the Carrera" hype that we heard in 2004?

: Hi Jeff and crew,

: Just checking details on that Dato 45. I have
: that watch and according to the chronograph
: book - 'to Stop Time' G-R. Lang. The
: production date is 1954. I know that the
: Carrera was not introduced until 1964 but
: these Datos are a not the same watch as a
: Val.72 Carrera. They are much deeper and use
: a Landeron 189 movement which is a real 50's
: movement.

: I was under the assumption that the watch was
: tried out in the 50's and then the other
: models arrived en masse in 64'. I seem to
: think Heuer and other watch companies in
: fact did try out models some time before
: general release often with lesser movements
: and or less detailing. Ie. val 7736 Monacos
: available according to some sources in the
: mid 60's.

: AM I wrong??

: Do you have the deffinative answer that will
: allow us to rest at night??

: Please say you have Jeff!! Please!!

: Regards

: Alistair
