: Thanks , Chuck. What you think of the new
: ones?(remakes)
Depending on the particular model, I like them a lot, or I'd pass...
The first generation Carrera 1964 Re-Edition's (with the Lemania 1873 movement - Same as the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch) is an excellent watch. Very faithful to the original Carrera (save for the movement, the original Valjoux 72 has been out of production for two decades or so), and a nice counterpoint to the aforementioned Moonwatch... Smaller dressier case, but all of the rugged attributes of the Moonwatch otherwise.
But since Swatch declines to sell the Lemania 1873 movement to non-Swatch firms, LVMH has been forced to use other movements it has access to. Many who follow the industry were looking forward to El-Primero based Carrera's, but so far only ETA/DuBois-Depraz piggyback chronograph movements have appeared for the newer chronograph models.
I don't care for the ETA/DuBois-Depraz movement, so I don't care for those models.
Were I interested in the Re-Edition's I'd suggest buying one before they get real scarce. If not, I'd suggest waiting a while and seeing if LVMH announces an El-Primero based Carrera in the next year or two.
