Seems the chaps have just about covered all the bases here, sorry for my late enterance here in response to your questions but the weather in the UK has been good over the easter break, so i've been forced out doing the garden and er....riding my motorcycles . Anyway it looks like everything you asked has been answered, and i agree with everything.......prices are of course dependant on condition, and if it comes with box and papers etc, and also if its a bracelet or a strap version, bracelets typically command a high price. Also be aware of replacement after market straps, as this will make a difference to price{cheaper than originals}.
I personally think that Cal 11 are better{as its rarer}, but some people think that the Cal 12 is more robust.
Good Hunting.

I am a complete novice and have no watch

: Now my question is what should I look out for
: when buying one? Is it common to fake them?
: What are the telltale signs? What does CAL
: 11 and CAL 12 mean? Is the Viceroy a
: cheaper. different model to the Siffert? If
: it is an autavia chronometer with blue hands
: does that mean it's a Siffert? The price
: guide says they are worth $2500-3000, would

: appreciated, and if there's anything you
: want to know about vintage Alfa Romeos,
: maybe I can help.
