others may suggest other analogies or comparisons, but maybe this is similar to the new car / vintage car question. the new one may be shiny and fresh, and come with a warranty, but most collectors would say that it doesn't have the character of the vintage / classic. and if you do the research and buy the right watch, you will find that the vintage one may be just as shiny and just as reliable. you can even opt for a bit of patina / character if you are so inclined.

some may also suggest that the older ones may hold their value better, or even increase in value over time. you could not expect this when you pruchase a newer one.

personally, I own one "new" MINI (2002 version) and one old Mini (1967 version). In the watch category, I own one modern TAG-Heuer (given to me by the company) and approx, 40 of the older ones.

you can always put the new TAG-Heuer and the vintage Heuer side by side, and see which one winks at you!!
