Wristwatch sticker shock: Pateks and more

I picked up the catalog for a watch sale at Antiquorum out of the discard bin at the WSJ.
Leafing through it I was taken aback at some of the estimates: high five figures for many of the Pateks, and a few well into six figures, the highest being $500,000-$600,000.
Now I'm normally the guy who drools over the the most expensive "whatever"--Ferrari GTOs, Martin 000-45s, etc. But the watches I liked the best were the relative cheapies--a couple of Heuers, and a very sweet Rolex Daytona.
It also put the asking prices of Heuers, and Omega Speedmasters and the like in perspective. A nice surprise, really. that my bank account and super-ego are in agreement for once.
best
Allen
